Communications and Public Relations Intern

Position Overview
The Communications and Public Relations Intern supports writing, media relations, research, brand storytelling, and communications coordination across client projects. This role is designed for someone who wants hands-on experience in public relations, strategic messaging, earned media support, thought leadership, and broader communications work in an agency setting.

This role will support a mix of current client work, including public-interest campaigns, brand storytelling efforts, and broader communications needs across Benefit Branding clients. Depending on project needs, the role may also support outreach and event-related communications tied to client campaigns and activations.

This is a strong stepping stone for students and early-career professionals interested in roles such as Communications Coordinator, Public Relations Coordinator, Account Coordinator, Media Relations Coordinator, or Community Engagement Coordinator.

What You’ll Do
Responsibilities may include:

  • Assist with media list development and media research

  • Support press release drafting, editing, and formatting

  • Help draft pitch language and outreach materials

  • Monitor media coverage, collect placements, and prepare clipping reports

  • Support research for award submissions, speaking opportunities, partnerships, and brand positioning

  • Assist with thought leadership, blog, and written content development

  • Help organize press materials, messaging documents, and communications assets

  • Support campaign research, audience research, and competitor scans

  • Assist with outreach-related communications and event support for select client projects

  • Support general client communications coordination across projects

This role is especially well suited for someone who enjoys strong writing, research, organization, and helping shape clear external communication across mission-driven and brand-focused client work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in public relations, communications, advertising, journalism, marketing, or related fields

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

  • Familiarity with AP style is a plus

  • Comfort with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and basic research tools

  • Prior student media, campus organization, writing, or internship experience is a plus

  • Interest in mission-driven campaigns, nonprofits, social impact work, or brand communications is a plus

Hours, Schedule, and Work Format
This is a summer internship with an expected schedule of generally 12–18 hours per week, with occasional heavier weeks depending on client timelines, writing needs, campaign activity, outreach support, and team meetings. There may also be an opportunity to begin earlier depending on availability and fit for the role.

The internship will be partially remote and partially in person, depending on meetings, project needs, and client activities.

Compensation
$16–$19/hour, depending on experience, availability, and fit for the role.
